heard a story on a podcast that some Christian missionaries showed these rural Cambodian farmers how to double their crop yields. the missionaries came back a year later and were surprised the Cambodians had grown basically the same amount of crops but the farmers were like “yeah this is great, we got everything we need for the year and only had to do half as much work”

Anyway last week my professor told the class “coworkers will put up with poor technical skills but they won’t put up with weird” and after class I just went and sat in my car and cried bc how am I supposed to survive if I still don’t seem “normal” even though I’ve been doing behavioral therapy since first grade but masking hurts so goddamn bad that I’m only doing two classes a week rn but I’m still falling apart and barely functioning every day and barely getting my work turned in bc i come home from class and collapse for days at a time and its just not fair, its not fair, why do other people get to be the normal, why do jobs get to be easy for other people, why are 66% of autistics unemployed/underemployed its not FAIR

Weird is fine. I do not give the slightest fuck about weird coworkers. Coworkers who can competently manage social situations well enough to cover for their incompetence to management? Those are the worst coworkers in the world.

Hoo-boy, your professor is a complete idiot who has apparently never worked a single job outside of the one they somehow landed to get paid for handing out shitty advice.

Your coworkers absolutely WILL work with weird. If you’re even halfway competent, they will accommodate weird. No seriously–because if you’re really competent, your coworkers will put up with raging assholes and miserable bitches because the bosses will love them enough to keep them no matter how terrible they are to work with, so in comparison? Weird but competent is nothing. We would pick you any day over the Queen Bee who you can’t even say “good morning” to because implying anything about the goodness or badness of the day was fighting words.

What your coworkers will NOT put up with is incompetence. People who refuse to be trained. Who make other people’s work more difficult by being so bad at doing their own. Who take the wrong kind of shortcuts or leave a task half-finished or try to wiggle out of doing what they’ve been assigned. It may not get them fired–some bosses really do believe that a warm body doing subpar work for ten years is better than taking the time to train one halfway intelligent person for one month–but your coworkers? Yeah, they’re going to notice that. You being weird? As long as you’re not making my workday more difficult, I could care less.

Speaking as someone who has been Seriously Weird in her entire career: if you are good at your job, your managers and coworkers will cherish you. If you are visibly weird, they will use you as an example of Weird But Competent.

Be weird, be polite, be good at what you do, and you will go far.

Yeah, weird but competent and kind is certainly loved in the work place. Especially if you work night shift.

So I’m doing an online training video for my new job, while listening to a particularly dry video I started picking at my pants and realized that I have more pockets in these pants than I had realized. I’ve had these pants for over a year.

our downstairs neighbor has a motion activated doorbell camera and recently made a snip on how we come home with takeout all the time and commented on our spending habits (its not btw. its people giving us leftovers and groceries)

so now that i know she watches the footage daily of the hallway we have to walk through to get to our room i make sure to deliberately stop in front of the camera and show her everything we get like a makeup/skincare influencer

today i went to a gardening ceremony for my deceased loved one to show support and won a porcelain chicken at bingo with 40 something old ladies

I am absolutely FURIOUS that for the past few decades, we’ve finally made some amount of positive change in the arena of gender equality, recognizing that men and women aren’t so different from each other, only for some harpies to pull a complete 180 the MOMENT they realized trans women were a thing.

I am creating a reblog for this because I know I have shit to say in response to this. How exactly am I the one who is shitting on women for saying we are strong and capable, exactly? Wasn’t that like, the entire point of feminism in the fucking first place??

You know why gender segregation in sports is even a thing? Women used to just join men’s leagues because female sports wasn’t even a thing yet (because old folks like the Victorians veiwed women like children who need to be coddled, claiming that they were “too fragile and delicate” to participate in sports and worried it could effect their ability to have and bear children) and some of those men were so fucking pissed off that women kept beating them they refused to compete with them anymore. It’s literally a timeless cliche in some places that men piss and shit themselves just over the THOUGHT of losing to a girl, and we rightfully viewed that belief as sexist garbage, and now here you are, plodding over into my replies to “educate me” on why women are apparently so weak and helpless that competing with men will utterly destroy us, and you claim I’M the one being sexist???

But let’s ignore that for a minute. What you said was that men have more muscle than women, which isn’t even fucking true, I know for a FACT some women are built like tanks and some men are bean poles, but even if you want to take the classical view that testosterone encourages muscle growth, which is at least true from a biological perspective, it still means fucking nothing because trans women lose ALL those advantages when they go on testosterone blockers and estrogen. In other words; Their performance becomes similar to cis women who produce estrogen naturally, because they have the same hormone levels. It shouldn’t fucking bother you that trans women are in sports, because people won’t even let them compete with other women until they’ve been on T-blockers and E for at least 2 YEARS. They would have no biological advantage at that point.

But let’s ignore that for a minute too. Cis women who have PCOS actually have much higher testosterone levels in their bodies than trans women after transition, in fact they are sometimes comparable to a man’s natural T levels. Does that mean 10% of cis women can no longer compete because they have a biological advantage? More to my point; Should they be forced to compete with men instead, or are they in the no-man’s-land of sports? A purgatory where they can only possibly compete with other women who have PCOS? Should we create a new league for every discrepency like this?

What about Canada’s hockey league, who discovered that all the top players have a January birthday because they chose their players young and being literally older than other children is a biological advantage? Do we start segregating sports based on birth month, or do we acknowledge that EVERYONE has some biological advantages over other people and trying to make things as fair as possible is literally a losing game?

Sports are already sorted by height and weight class, so women will always compete against men in their own class anyway. Sure, men will probably trend towards the top more often, but that’s not a guarentee, and it doesn’t mean men are all just hopeless animals who are going to mindlessly pummel everyone in their path, including the poor defenseless women who just can’t do anything to defend themselves against them.

Everyone has a biological advantage over everyone else. If we want sports to be more fair, maybe we should focus on height and weight class, not on the genitals of the people who compete.

Seriously, why do people care so much about other people’s genitals??? It’s really creepy!!!

Also, funny you should insult me for being queer, considering cis lesbians wouldn’t have rights without queer people. Gays have the right to marry because of what black trans women did at the stonewall riots. Denying that is denying history.

Now stop using sexism to justify your transphobia. Or at least get the fuck off my post.
